The Lost World is a science fiction novel by British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, published in 1912 by Hodder & Stoughton, about an expedition to a plateau in South America's Amazon basin where prehistoric animals still exist. It was originally serialized in the Strand Magazine and illustrated by New Zealand-born artist Harry Rountree between April and November 1912. This book introduced the character of Professor Challenger. In addition, the novel depicts a conflict between indigenous people and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures.
